Over the last fifty years we’ve lost the freedom and endless possibility that cars used to represent and simply accepted traffic and the limitations of driving as a way of life. In fact, we view the world through a car-centric lens, choosing where welive and work based on how long driving between them will take. We limit our weekend trips based on how long it will take to drive there and back. No matter who you are, no matter what you do, we all face challenges, obstacles, rules, limitations and frustrations—this daily struggle is gravity that pulls us down and tries to keep us from reaching our potential. Together we will defy gravity.

Bill Guthy
Angel · 2 investments in United States Email startups

Bill Guthy, Founding Principal and Co-Chairman, along with co-founder Greg Renker, focus on new product and brand development. This includes selecting, licensing and developing products that meet the direct response criteria for success and crafting the USP (Unique Selling Proposition) and proper casting of talent that have an associated productstory rather than a traditional endorsement.Raised by his mother above a New York City luncheonette, Guthy experienced a childhood of meager means. He excelled in high school-as editor of the paper, president of the Speech Club and student body vice president-conducting a successful landscaping business on the side. “I always had an entrepreneurial drive, a desire to do better,” Guthy recalls. In 1969, the family settled in Southern California where Guthy followed tradition and attended Ambassador College in the only major then offered, Theology. In his sophomore year, the school broadened its choices and he switched to Psychology, graduating with a B.S. in 1977.While in college, Guthy served as senior class president and paid his tuition by duplicating audiotapes for the Blind Department of the church affiliated with Ambassador. He eventually secured permission to rent the equipment at night and took on independent jobs. Cassette Productions Unlimited (CPU), his own audiotape duplication and packaging firm, was thus born in 1977. Originally operating from his apartment, Guthy soon bought his own equipment and moved into a small office in Pasadena. In 1981, Guthy purchased a home for weekend retreats in Indian Wells, California and began a friendship with Greg Renker, whose family owned the resort. • LimitScreen Inc — We know that families need and love their connected devices, which makes turning them off - even sometimes - really tough. Screen was created to empower families to develop healthy screen habits, working with their kids to moderate time spent on devices to reconnect our most important social network - the family.Screen's hardware andsoftware can seamlessly turn off electronic devices (including the TV and the game console!) from a mobile app, and show how and where devices are being used. Screen also grows with the family, allowing parents to introduce device use to the youngest children and adjust the way they're used as their needs change. Our families are all over the place after school and on weekends. That’s why Screen works wherever our kids and their devices go - school, home, soccer practice - anywhere. Screen also works regardless of where you are. Even at the office, you can know what your kids are doing, and also know long they’ve been using their devices. This way we can know whether it's time to have a conversation with the kids about their screen usage, or as a last resort, power them down remotely.
