The Yield Lab Europe is a €50m early stage Agrifood and Ag Tech fund which comprises an accelerator and a larger follow-on fund, investing in high tech companies with the potential to significant disrupt and improve our current systems of global food production, and to improve the environmental sustainability of the industry. The main fund invests€1m each into 10-12 companies over several follow on rounds, with the strongest accelerator companies expected to progress to the main fund. Barry Downes is the CEO of the Telecommunications Software and Systems Group (TSSG). Barry brings considerable technical and entrepreneurial experience to these roles having previously founded FeedHenry a leading cloud based mobile applications platform based in Waterford, Ireland and Boston, MA, that was acquired by Red Hat Inc. (NYSE: RHT) in October 2014 for $82 million.Barry holds a BSc. in Applied Computing from the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) and a M.B.A. from the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business at University College Dublin (UCD). Barry also holds executive education qualifications from Harvard Law School in Cambridge, MA and Henley Business School in the UK.Barry’s current research and entrepreneurial interests are in creating new start-ups in mobile (www.fuseami.com), Internet of Things (IoT) and Virtual Reality industries.
